The group of regulators from eight states conducted an investigation into the company. Financial regulators from Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Vermont, and Washington determined that Abra operated an unauthorized mobile app for buying, selling, and trading cryptocurrencies. The states will receive up to $82.1 million, and all remaining virtual assets will be returned to Abra's customers. Barhydt has agreed not to engage in any authorized money transmission activities for five years. Other states may join the agreement. Abra has faced legal issues previously, including a $300,000 fine for trading synthetic assets and a cease and desist order in Texas.
